Acquired Class: Quality Running Improved With Blinkers

Three year old gelding for Peter Miller made start #3 in Saturday’s finale, a sprint on the turf at six and a half for maiden special weights, all 3 years old. Off at 5/1 in a field of 12, he made the running right from the start under J.J. but had plenty of company on the front end. He put the speed away at the top of the lane, then found another gear and ran the final in quarter in a brisk 23.05 to win going away by three at the wire. When a speed horse can run the final quarter faster than the first (23.05 vs. 23.37) and still put the other speed away, you have a quality runner. This was his 1st start with blinkers and they made a world of difference for this son of Cairo Prince. Miller has a good one here and the $12.00 mutuel wasn’t hard to take with the leading rider up. Up the ladder.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Acquired Class was cabable of.  We expected that if Acquired Class gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Acquired Class performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Acquired Class last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Acquired Class next start.  If Acquired Class appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Acquired Class will dominate the race.
