Johannes: Looks Like Graded Stakes Material

Three year old colt for Tim Yakteen tried two turns for the first time in his 6th career start and he passed the test with flying colors in the Pasadena stakes on Sunday at a mile on the turf for sophomores. Off as the heavy 3/10 choice in a field of just four, he lagged early behind the leaders down the back side sitting third, 4 lengths off the pace. Rispoli asked him for run at the ¼ pole, and he easily inhaled the leaders and extended his lead down the stretch to win by four, and then galloped out strongly past the wire. Granted, it was a small field, and he didn’t beat a great deal of talent here, but the race was visually impressive and this one has now dominated in all three of his turf races. The sky’s the limit for this son of Nyquist and Rispoli has been the rider for all three of his grass races. He looks like graded stakes material to me. Up the ladder.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Johannes was cabable of.  We expected that if Johannes gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Johannes performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Johannes last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Johannes next start.  If Johannes appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Johannes will dominate the race.
