Fast Fig 2021 Results By Track and Conditions
If there was a Mount Rushmore for Digest handicappers, we would think the late Tim Osterman would be up there. You may recognize the name from the “Osterman Files”, but you may not know that Tim created the Fast Figs that are found in the Complete Digest. It is no surprise that Tim found a profitable formula to produce the Fast Figs as he was one sharp handicapper and horseplayer.
What are Fast Figs? They are a combined class/performance figure based on the horse’s overall effort and the strength and level of the fields faced. An easy way to use the Fast Figs is to look for the top number for each horse in a race along with any other runner that is within five points of the top runner.
We did a study of the Fast Figs for the North American tracks that we produced in 2021 and we would like to share with you some of the positive trends and angles. For this study, we used the top Fast Fig only and only used races where at least 50% of the field had a Fast Fig.
2021 All Turf Route Results
From 3,278 races the top Fast Fig produced a win rate of 28%.The king of Fast Fig turf routes (and all ROI’s) goes to Keeneland with a whopping 204% ROI! This was from a study of 67 races with a win rate of 39%. Five other tracks had a 125%+ ROI:
Aqueduct: 130% ROI
Churchill Downs: 128% ROI
Fair Grounds: 129% ROI
Kentucky Downs: 166% ROI
Santa Anita 126% ROI

2021 All Dirt and Synthetic Route Results
From 7,712 races, the top Fast Fig produced a win rate of 30%.We found five tracks that had a 130%+ ROI with Pleasanton showing only a 55% ROI. Charles Town: 133% ROI
Ellis Park: 179% ROI
Los Alamitos: 132% ROI
Saratoga: 139% ROI
Turf Paradise: 136% ROI

2021 All Turf Sprints Results

Pimlico: 143% ROI
Tampa Bay Downs: 122% ROI
From the NYRA circuit, only Aqueduct showed a profitable ROI of 108%.

2021 All Dirt and Synthetic Sprints Results
Of the race meets where we produced Complete Digests, Belmont Park produced the highest ROI of 116% from a total of 205 races with a win rate of only 25% (average Fast Fig win rate for all dirt sprints at all tracks is 30%). This suggests Fast Figs at Belmont can be a way to look for winning horses that offer value on the tote.
The highest ROI for dirt sprints per our study was at Pleasanton. The sample size is small (56 races), but the ROI was a solid 163%! Yes, you can find value at smaller tracks along with Ellis Park (115% ROI), Finger Lakes (111% ROI) and Prairie Meadows (106% ROI).
How about this: All three Canadian tracks in our study (Fort Erie, Hastings Park and Woodbine) all showed a profitable ROI in dirt/synthetic sprints.

2021 All Tracks and Races Fast Fig Results
Below is a list of all races run in 2021 where at least half of the horses in the field had a Fast Fig. Whenever there was a race where more than one horse shared the highest Fast Fig we would use the horse with the highest FIRE number and then highest CPR number.

This study was not made to find an easy way to profits; it was made to show how Fast Figs can help you find higher-priced winners no matter the circuit, distance or surface. As you are handicapping, mark the horse with the highest Fast Fig as you are going thru the Data Lines. Afterwards, we would suggest looking at the other horses that are within five points from the highest Fast Fig in each race and check to see if they offer value on the tote or when filling out those Pick 4 and Pick 6 tickets.
We hope you include the Fast Figs in your handicapping as we want you to cash more tickets! The Digest has been and always will be “for the survival of the horseplayer”. If you have questions about Fast Figs or would like to share your success stories, please contact us as we would love to hear them!
