Bob Hope Stakes (G3) Recap (11-16-19) - Winner: High Velocity ($4.00)

Nothing was learned in this graded extended sprint for 2-year-olds. Two of the six runners scratched, including highly regarded morning line favorite Thousand Words (trained by Bob Baffert). Baffert also saddled High Velocity, and this race was over after an opening quarter in a dawdling 23.28. Strongconstitution came after High Velocity but could never get past his rival. In the end, High Velocity had plenty left and scored by length and a quarter. Strongconstitution was clearly second best. Zimba Warrior was a clear 3rd and Rager was 8+ back in last.

Nov. 16 Claims: None.

Betty Grable Stakes Recap (11-17-19) - Winner: Queen Bee To You ($8.00)

I love playing early-pressing types from outer posts in extended sprints, and Queen Bee To You checked all the right boxes in this state bred stakes affair. Creative Instinct and post time favorite Mo See Cal battled early, and Queen Bee To You was in a great outside tactical spot under Flavien Prat. The latter never looked like a loser and kicked well clear to win by 4+ lengths. Show It N Moe It saved ground stalking the pace and ended up a clear 2nd. Mo See Cal just held 3rd over Creative Instinct. Starr of Quality was next and Coco Kisses trailed throughout.

Nov. 17 Claims: Race 5 - Swing Thoughts ($32k, Bob Hess Jr).
