Santa Anita Recap for Friday (5-10-19)


Fast main track and firm turf course. Two front running winners on dirt (8f, 6f). The winning turf course running styles were two stalkers at one mile, a front runner at one mile, and a stalker at five furlongs (rail at 10 feet).


Doug O’Neill saddled three winners.


The 20 cent Rainbow Pick 6 pool was $108,543 and multiple winning tickets paid $1,785.34 each. There will be a jackpot carryover of $429,880 when live racing resumes Saturday, May 11.  


May 10 Claims: Race 2 - Clear the Mine ($10k, Bill Spawr). Race 5 - Arch Prince ($35k, Samuel Calvario), Cabin John ($35k, Phil D’Amato), Treasure Hunter ($35k, Mark Glatt). Race 7 - Convince ($25k, Vann Belvoir).

Santa Anita Recap for Saturday (5-11-19)


Fast main track and firm turf course. No front running winners on dirt. The winning turf course running styles were a patient runner at five furlongs, a pace prompter at nine furlongs, a stalker at a mile and a half, a front runner at one mile, and a stalker at five furlongs.   


No riding or training doubles on Saturday.


The 20 cent Rainbow Pick 6 pool was $154,371 and multiple winning tickets paid $2,355.92 each. There will be a jackpot carryover of $465,219 when live racing resumes Sunday, May 12.  


Santa Barbara Stakes (G3) Recap (5-11-19) - Winner: Causeforcommotion ($4.40)


Causeforcommotion was much the best in this graded turf marathon. She confidently chased front runner Animosity, took over around the final turn, and pulled well clear to win by nine lengths. Lynne’s Legacy rallied to finish a clear 2nd, and Guiliana was 3rd by a neck over Animosity. Kodiak West faded to finish 5th and last.

Santa Anita Recap for Sunday (5-12-19)


Fast main track and firm turf course. Two dueling front running winners on dirt (4.5f, 6f). The winning turf course running styles were a front runner at one mile, a stalker at five panels, another front runner at one mile, and a dueling early runner at a flat mile.  


Mario Gutierrez and Doug O’Neill teamed up for two wins.


The 20 cent Rainbow Pick 6 pool was $254,311 and multiple winning tickets paid $5,276.14 each. There will be a jackpot carryover of $523,445 when live racing resumes Friday, May 17. 


Fran’s Valentine Stakes Recap (5-12-19) - Winner: Cordiality ($7.00)


Cordiality was back with state bred friends in this turf route and she seized control early from the inside post and went all the way to score by a length and a quarter under Joe Talamo. Queen Bee to You gamely chased the winner all the way around the track and held 2nd over Pulpit Rider. Overbet favorite stalked from the outside post and finished an even 4th. She did not want to go this far after winning her last three starts on the downhill course. Algorhythmic, Sapphire Kid, Bella Luma, Halo Darlin, and Fiery Lady completed the order of finish.


 


May 11 Claims: Race 1 - Best Two Minutes ($12.5k, Reed Saldana), Big Shanty ($12.5k, Javier Sierra). Race 2 - Kristi’s Copilot ($25k, Jerry Hollendorfer). Race 6 - Scrambled ($30k, Ryan Hanson), Wicken Fen ($30k, Mark Glatt). Race 8 - Heloise ($12.5k, Isidro Tamayo).
