Lure Stakes Recap - Winner: Kencumin

This race was pretty straightforward. Kenjisstorm set the pace from the rail, and Kencumin pressed from an outer post. The latter got the advantage in deep stretch and won by a 1/2 length. Kenjisstorm fought hard throughout and held 2nd over post time favorite Alert Bay. Le Ken was another need back in 4th, and was followed by Chicago Style, Secretary At War, Threefiveindia, and Colonist.

Golden State Juvenile Fillies Recap - Winner: Give Me a Hint

The inside post can be tricky in extended sprints, but Give Me a Hint had no problem with the rail draw today. She bobbled at the start, saved ground stalking the pace, and swung out and rolled past the early runners to win by 2-1/4 lengths under Even Roman. Post time favorite Mucho Unusual battled on the pace from the outside post and outgamed Hotitude for the place. Creative Instinct dueled throughout and held 4th.

Santa Anita Recap for Saturday (11-3-18)

Fast main track and firm turf course. Three dueling front running winners on dirt (6f, 6f, 7f). The winning turf course running styles were two stalkers at five furlongs, a downhill closer, and a patient runner at one mile.†††††

Assael Espinoza and Evin Roman both booted home a pair. Bob Baffert saddled two winners.

The Rainbow 6 pool was $351,020, and multiple winning tickets paid $1,321,64.

Nov 3 Claims: Race 3 - A Little Bit of Me ($40k, Vladimir Cerin). Race 5 - Ride to the Wire ($25k, Charles Treece), Earnednevergiven ($25k, Jack Carava). Race 6 - Dis Smart Cat (claim voided, reason vet). Race 9 - Gemini Journey ($8k, Genaro Vallejo).

Grade III Senator Ken Maddy Stakes Recap (11-3-18) - Winner: Storm the Hill

Storm the Hill loves the Santa Anita turf course, and she excels in downhill sprints. Painting Corners also loves the hill, and she was the post time favorite for Peter Miller. She seized command under Evin Roman, and she maintained a clear lead throughout, but Storm the Hill stormed home and won by a bit less than two lengths under resurgent rider Rafael Bejarano. Painting Corners was second best, and Poster Girl was along for 3rd. Bernina Star was next, and Out of the Flames, Rubilinda, Miss Southern Miss, Travieza, and Go On Mary completed the order of finish.

Golden State Juvenile Recap (11-3-18) - Winner: Cruel Intention

The two favorites dominated from start to finish. Cruel Intention and Galilean knocked heads from the opening bell, and neither gave an inch. They were eight lengths clear of the rest in the stretch, and sixteen lengths in front at the wire. Cruel Intention got the nod by a neck, and Galilean ran a winning race in defeat. As for the others, Luckís Royal Flush gave futile chase and was 3rd, and was followed by I Belong to Becky, Listing, Oliver, and Whooping Jay.

Santa Anita Recap for Sunday (11-4-18)

Fast main track and firm turf course. Two dueling front running winners on dirt (5.5f, 8f). The winning turf course running styles were a closer at one mile, a patient runner at one mile, a front runner down the hill, a patient runner at a mile and an eighth, and a stalker at one mile.†††

Tiago Pereira booted home a pair, and Flavien Prat rode both of the graded turf route winners.

The closing day Rainbow 6 jackpot pool was $6,745,114, and multiple winning tickets paid $601.10.

Nov 4 Claims: Race 5 - Mayan Warrior ($30k, Steve Knapp), Diamond Blitz (claim voided, reason vet). Race 6 - Hitters Park ($45k, Doug OíNeill). Race 7 - For the Hustle ($20k, George Papaprodromou).

Grade II Goldikova Stakes Recap (11-4-18) - Winner: Vasilika

Vasilika adores the Santa Anita turf course, and she has been a win machine this year for Jerry Hollendorfer. Any distance goes as well, and she moved these down with complete authority under Flavien Prat. Fahan Mura did her usual front running thing, and she held off everyone except the classy favorite. Madame Stripes almost always runs her race at the Great Race Place, and she was up for 3rd at 28-1. Lull chased the pace and settled for 4th, and Cambodia, Iím Betty G, Beau Recall, and La Sardane were next across the line.

Grade II Twilight Derby Recap (11-4-18) - Winner: River Boyne

Let there be no doubt that course specialist River Boyne was best in this nine furlong turf affair for sophomores. The pace ended up being honest with Pubilius Syrus and Majestic Eagle hooking up early. I thought my value top choice Have At It was in line for a perfect ground saving stalking trip, and that is exactly how it played out. Christophe Clementís shipper was briefly in front in deep stretch, but along came River Boyne on the outside to win by a 1/2 length under Flavien Prat. The winner was wide throughout and the runner-up saved all of the ground. Desert Stone was my value play in the Del Mar Derby, but he disappointed that day. I did not fancy him in this spot, but I must say that he ran a quality race. He closed nicely to miss second by a nose at 37-1. Majestic Eagle did all of the pace dirt work and ended up 4th, and was followed by Platinum Warrior, Kazan, Epical, Andesh, and Pubilius Syrus.
