Friday Santa Anita Park Recap: February 9

Fast main track and firm turf course. Four dueling front running winners on dirt (6.5f, 5.5f, 7f, 6.5f). Pace pressers won the other two dirt races. The winning turf course running styles were two stalkers at one mile, and a dueling front runner at one mile (turf rail at 30 feet).

Saturday Santa Anita Park Recap: February 10

Fast main track and firm turf course. Two front running winners on dirt (8.5f, 8f). The dirt oval was not nearly as speed favoring today. The winning turf course running styles were a patient runner at one mile, a front runner at one mile, a stalker at one mile, and two stalkers at one mile, and a dueling front runner down the hill (turf rail at 10 feet/rail on hill at zero feet).

Tyler Conner and Flavien Prat (2 graded stakes wins). Training triple for Jerry Hollendorfer including a pair of graded stakes (Unique Bella, Kanthaka).

February 10 Claims: Big Champion ($12.5k, Michael Curtis). Race 2 - Trapalanda ($12.5k, Doug OíNeill). Race 8 - Sawyerís Hill ($40k, David Jacobson).

Unique Bella did not need any advantages in the Grade 2 Santa Maria, but she was the lone speed and won in an absolute canter under Mike Smith.† Mopotism outfinished Majestic Heat for the place, and the other two entrants were far back.

Thanks to Flavien Pratís very aggressive ride, Om was able to break a long drought in the Grade 3 Thunder Road Stakes. He had a 1/2 length to spare over Bowies Hero and Next Shares. Even money favorite Blackjackcat looked like the controlling speed on paper but things did not go according to plan and he was up the track in his first start of the season.

Another smart Flavien Prat ride in the Grade 2 San Vicente. This time, the pace was fast and contested, and Prat bided his time in 5th place before swinging out in the lane and spurting clear to win by 3.5 lengths aboard Kanthaka. Nero won the pace battle but lost the war while a dozen lengths clear of show finisher All Out Blitz. Ax Man dueled inside and had nothing left in a disappointing 4th place finish. Krisí Rocket Kat never got involved in a race he probably needed for Baltas. Canterbury shipper Mr. jagermeister dueled for a half and retreated to last.

Sunday Santa Anita Park Recap: February 11

February 11 Claims: Race 1 - Vasilika ($40k, Jerry Hollendorfer), Aura Rose ($40k, Martin Valenzuela, III), War Moccasin ($40k, Bob Hess, Jr.).
