Honeymoon Stakes (G3) Recap (6-1-19) - Winner: Lady Prancealot ($8.40)

Holly Hundy and Seranitsa showed the way early, and favorite Maxim Rate was in a good spot behind those two. The two early runners faded, and the chalk failed to quicken. The stretch run came down to Lady Prancealot and Hostess. The latter got the jump but the former made the last run and prevailed by three-quarters of a length. Overemphasize stalked the pace and raced evenly throughout in an okay show finish. Seranitsa, Maxim Rate, and Holly Hundy were next, and CA-bred filly Dr Wysong trailed throughout. In the end, Lady Prancealot wanted the nine furlong distance, and miler Maxim Rate did not. Hostess might be best up to a mile and a sixteenth.

Santa Maria Stakes (G2) Recap (6-1-19) - Winner: La Force ($12.80)

This race was supposed to be a walk in the park for Paradise Woods. She towered over her four rivals in the paper race and figured to dictate the pace, but everything changed at the break. The overwhelming favorite had a bad beginning, and the whole race shape was flipped upside down as a result. Just a Smidge, Exuberance, and Tapped all showed speed, but they were hardly breaking any stopwatches. Paradise Woods and La Force trailed, and this is where the race was won. Paradise Woods was bottled up behind horses, while La Force rallied wide over Joe Talamo, and her momentum carried her to victory by a length and a quarter. Paradise Woods was clearly second best in a race she should have won easily. Just a Smidge held 3rd, followed by Exuberance and Tapped.

June 1 Claims: Race 2 - Tiz Toffee ($16k, Jonathan Wong).

Santa Anita Recap for Sunday (6-2-19)

Fast main track and firm turf course. Three front running winners on dirt (4.5f, 4.5f, 6f). The winning turf course running styles were a dueling front runner at five furlongs, two stalkers at nine furlongs, a front runner at one mile, and an outside stalker at five panels.

Riding doubles for Martin Garcia (2 turf wins) and Tiago Pereira (2 dirt wins). Mark Glatt saddled two turf winners.

The 20 cent Rainbow Pick 6 pool was $266,281 and multiple winning tickets paid $52.74 each. There will be a jackpot carryover of $1,017,842 when live racing resumes Friday, June 7.

Cinema Stakes Recap (6-2-19) - Winner: Neptune’s Storm ($5.00)

Five sophomores traveled a mile and an eighth on turf in this one, and the pace was slow. How slow was it? King of Speed was on the lead through splits of 25.12 and 49.53. Neptune’s Storm was always well placed, battled for the lead after six furlongs, and inched away to win by a length. Maiden Parsimony edged past King of Speed for the place, and beaten favorite Gregorian Chant and More Ice trailed.

June 2 Claims: Race 7 - Seaside Dancer ($50k, Bob Hess Jr.).
