Big City Lights: Bumped at the Start and Dug in Gamely Can Go Short or Long

Four year old colt for Richard Mandella tried something new in the opener on Saturday, the Cal Cup Sprint at ¾ on the main. Off at 7/2 in a field of just six, he was bumped around at the start and for the first time in his six race career, he couldn’t make the lead. J.J. kept him just off the leaders but was only two lengths off the pace. He sat in 4th until turning for home until the rider swung him to the outside and tried to wear down the odds on choice. He dug in gamely but “The Chosen Vron” was just too much horse and he came up a neck short at the wire. This son of Mr. Big has never been worse than second in six starts with three wins. He is all race horse can go short or long. Look for Hall of Famer Mandella to find a winning spot for him this winter.
