Pequena Tormenta: She’s a Runner and Can Improve Moving Up

Five year old mare for Jeff Mullins, who hadn’t been out since last June, but had come back with blazing drills, tried six others on Friday in a starter allowance non winners twice at 7 furlongs on the main track. Off at 9/5 and the 2nd choice in the wagering, she broke a step slow under Berrios, but quickly had a length on the field by the half mile pole. She had two on the field by the ¼ pole and the jock sat like a statue, not asking her for any run. He let her run at the 1/8 pole and she opened up to win by 10 totally geared down late. This was just her fifth career start so she has had some issues, but she’s a runner. She will have no trouble with the first allowance condition. Up the ladder.
